Not to brag, but one of my favorite aspects of my appearance is my hair. I have always had long, thick hair. I honestly don’t know what it’s like have short hair!
One of the most common compliments I get is that my hair looks good. That being said, I do a lot to take care of my hair. I put in a lot of work on it! I’m not a natural blonde, I use heat tools and I only wash it once or twice a week. It’s taken me a while to get here, but I’ve figured a hair routine that really does work for me. I’ve found products and tools that I truly love and work well for me. I know that everyone’s hair is different, so these products may not work for everyone. However, I know people with different hair from mine that use these products and love them too, so hopefully you’ll find something new to fall in love with!

About My Hair
Like I said before, my hair is long and thick. Straightened, it reaches all the way down to my waist. It’s also not my natural color. I’ve been dying my hair since I was 14, so I barely remember the ashy brown color that it is naturally. When I go to the salon, I ask for small blonde balayage highlights, and I prefer an icy blonde over a warm one.
I wouldn’t say that my hair is greasy or dry; it’s probably somewhere in the middle. I usually wash it twice a week, about every three or four days, but sometimes I’ll go longer between washes. I also use heat on it, either curling my hair or straightening it (depending on what I’m in the mood to do).
Washing
As I said above, I wash my hair about twice a week (sometimes only once). I have a rotation of washing products that I use to keep my hair clean but also healthy. For starters, I try to use the Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector on my hair once a week, or about every other wash. I apply it to my hair when it’s dry, so before showering, and leave it in for about 30 minutes before I hop in the shower. I’ve found that it works best with my hair this way. Everyone loves this product for a reason; it’s truly worked wonders for my hair by making it stronger and healthier.
When it comes to the actual washing, I have two shampoo and conditioner sets that I rotate in between. The first is a purple shampoo and conditioner, which is great for brightening up my blonde hair. A lot of purple shampoos I’ve tried made my feel very dry, but the eva nyc Tone It Down Blonde shampoo and conditioner set is an exception. My hair actually feels super soft when I use it! If I’m not using that, then I love every product I’ve tried by the Matrix or Biolage brands (I get both at Ulta). I like to switch them up, so I typically get a new one every time I run out. The one I’m currently using isn’t available, but I’ve used the Biolage Keratin Shampoo and Biolage Keratin Conditioner in the past with great results.
Once I’m in the shower, I use a shampoo massager to work the product into my scalp. I got mine from TJ Maxx so it’s not online, but the one I linked is very similar. After I’ve rinsed the shampoo from my scalp, I’ll apply conditioner from my ears downward and then brush it through using a detangling brush. I love this one because it’s plastic and easy to keep in the shower since it dries super easily. I typically let the conditioner sit in my hair for a bit while washing my body or shaving, then I’ll rinse it all out at the end. Occasionally I’ll also use the eva nyc Therapy Session Hair Mask when my hair feels dry and needs some care.
Caring
Now that I’ve covered the products I use to wash my hair, let’s get into what I use to care for my hair. For starters, I really love the eva nyc Mane Magic 10-in-1 Primer. I’ll apply it a bit when my hair is wet and brush it through with my Wet Brush Pro Detangler. The primer spray makes my hair feel super soft and silky, and it adds shine as well. I’ll also apply a bit when my hair is dry before styling, along with the Drybar Hot Toddy Heat Protectant Mist.
Allow me to take this opportunity to emphasize the importance of using a heat protectant when using hot tools on your hair! Just like how you shouldn’t be spending a long time outside in the summer without SPF, you shouldn’t be using heat on your hair without using a heat protectant product first! It is so damaging to use heat without a heat protectant first.
Lastly, in order to extend the life of my hair between washes, I love the Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo. When my hair starts to get greasy, I’ll apply a bit to my roots at night before bed. This way, when I wake up, it’s had time to absorb the oils and thus don’t have those white spots that dry shampoo sometimes leaves.
Styling
I used to think my hair was impossible to curl. Turns out, that was wrong; I just wasn’t using the right tools! My absolute favorite curling iron ever is the T3 Whirl Trio Curling Iron. I also have the 1″ Barrel with a Clamp and the 1.5″ Barrel with a Clamp. I love the interchangeable barrels, so it’s like having multiple curling irons in one. It’s definitely an investment item, but I’ve found it to be 100% worth it. T3s do pop up on Poshmark from time to time (that’s where I got mine!) so you can save a bit that way.
I also don’t really blow dry my hair. I do have the Revlon blow dry brush that I use on occasion, but about 95% of the time, I shower in the evenings and just let my hair dry overnight. If I want to straighten my hair, I use the BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Straightener. I’m able to straighten my (very long and thick) hair with it in about 10 minutes. Again, another investment item, but I’ve had it for years with great results and no problems.
Finally, when it comes to preserving my styled hair, the Salon Grafix Extra Super Hold Shaping Hair Spray is my holy grail hairspray. It’s super affordable and makes my hair stay in place, without that “crunchy” stiff feeling that I’ve found other hairsprays to leave me with. I also apply the Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Texturizing Finishing Spray to finish things off and add volume to everything.
