Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas (for eating lots of food!)

Do y’all want to know what makes me irrationally mad? When influencers share outfit ideas for Thanksgiving that include tight, form-fitting clothes or pants that DON’T have stretchy waistbands. It’s so small, yet it irks me to no end. I love Thanksgiving. I feel that having a holiday based mainly around food, with no obligation of buying gifts, is one of the greatest things about America.

However, when I dress for the occasion, the last thing I want is for my outfit to constrict my ability to eat as much food as I possibly can. I want my paper plate to be so loaded with food that it’s at risk of falling apart. A Thanksgiving is successful for me if by the end of the night, I have a food baby in my stomach.

Therefore, this Thanksgiving outfit ideas post will only consist of outfits that can handle eating copious amounts of food. You will find no high-waisted jeans here, nor will there be any bodycon dresses. All waistbands will be stretchy. These will be outfits that allow you to look cute but also eat your body weight in mashed potatoes (or whatever your Thanksgiving food of choice is).

Recent Purchases: Vol. 1

I’m honestly shocked it took me this long to come up with this idea for a blog post. I shop all the time (it’s kinda bad…), so it’s only natural for me to do a blog series on my recent purchases. This will differ from my favorites because I won’t be able to add commentary to add everything since they will be newer items, but it’s still a fun way for me to share things I’ve bought lately. Without further ado, here are some of my recent purchases. Links are below, plus a few notes on things!

Supergoop Glowscreen | Disposable Face Masks (I guess I have a small face because most “adult” face masks I’ve tried fall off my face. These are kids’ sized but they’re perfect for me and super comfortable.) | Hill House Coat | Ribbed Mock-Neck Top (Loved it so much, I went back and bought all three colors!) | Glamorous Wash Laundry Detergent | Clogs (on sale with limited sizes; similar pair for less here) | Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil | Black Nap Dress | Collared Sweater (I went a size down in this) | Jewel-Button Cardigan | Apple Watch | NARS Blush (purchased in the shade Orgasm)

September 2021 Favorites

I feel like everyone loves a good favorites post. It’s so interesting to see what other people are loving enough to dedicate a whole post to raving about them. They’re also a great way to find new items to try out! I keep a running list in my phone of stuff I’ve really been enjoying lately for posts like this. I’m sure you’re all antsy to get past my rambling and into the post, so I’ll jump right in!

Disclaimer: Some of these links may be affiliate links, meaning if you make a purchase using them, I may earn a small commission. This comes at no extra cost to you, and it helps me keep my blog running! I really appreciate anyone who shops with my links, and I’d be super grateful if you use them!

Clothing Rack: This is the number one thing I’ve received questions about on Instagram since moving into my new apartment. It’s in my little office area and in the background any time I take a mirror selfie. It serves two functions: 1. extra storage for my clothes since closet space is limited (because now I share one with another person) and 2. a display for my prettiest dresses. I feel like having a clothing rack of nice clothes is the ultimate “fashion blogger” decor piece! This gold one from Amazon is a great price (under $100), was super easy to put together and holds a lot! I get so many compliments when people see it behind me on Zoom calls. And pro tip: there are two important factors to making it look styled and not like just some extra clothing storage. First, use nice, matching hangers. I like these! Second, try to stick to a color palette with the clothes you put on it so it looks cohesive. Mine is mainly pinks, blues, purples and whites, which I think compliment each other very nicely.

Matching Pajama Sets: Someone on TikTok called matching pajama sets key to leveling up your life and wow. I totally agree! It’s such a small thing (to the point where it feels kinda silly), but it feels like such a “self care” thing to change into one before bed instead of just wearing a big T-shirt. They can be as affordable or spendy as you want, too! I have these (which I got on clearance) and these (less than $25!), which are on the cheaper side. However, I’m dying for a more splurge-worthy set from somewhere like Printfresh or Lake Pajamas!

Benefit Cheek Tint: To be fully transparent, I was gifted this in a PR box in exchange for an Instagram post earlier this summer. That obligation was filled well before this blog post went live. I was not paid or compelled to write this post. With that being said, I love this stuff and have used it basically every day since I bought it. I have pretty pale skin, so I feel like a ghost without blush or bronzer to add some dimension to my face. This adds the perfect amount of rosiness without looking too over the top, but it’s buildable so you could definitely more if you need more color. I also find that cream or liquid blush stays on longer than powder blush does!

Nap Dresses: I feel like I can’t go a day without telling people how much I love the Hill House Nap Dress. I’m basically a Nap Dress evangelist at this point. I’m literally wearing one right now! I wrote a whole blog post review about my first Nap Dress (which includes a discount link). To sum things up: I started this summer with one Nap Dress. Now I have seven of them. Am I obsessed? Yes! But is it bad for anyone? Maybe my wallet…but I feel so cute and comfy! You need a Nap Dress. I need more of them. Everyone needs a Nap Dress!

Huggie Hoop Set: My ears are double-pierced, but the spacing between the holes is uneven on each side, so I’m a little limited as to what kinds of earrings I can wear. Basically, I either have to wear very small studs or thin hoops. This set from Amazon is awesome, and I’ve been wearing the crystal pair in my second hole multiple times a week! It looks great with the braided pair in the set or even a pair of bigger hoops or drop earrings. Bonus: the set of three is under $15!

Long-Lasting Lipstick: Something that just screams “I have my life together” to me is wearing lipstick. Bonus points if you have a signature shade! I recently picked up this lipstick in a Target order, and I’ve since purchased two more shades. It lasts for so long but doesn’t feel drying or flaky! I have the colors Change is Good (reddish pink), Keep It Fun (mauve) and Seek Adventure (bright pink). I have heard that the shade Achieve It All is a dupe for the famous Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk lipstick, so that’ll be my next pick.

Affordable Summer Swimwear Guide

As I sit and write this post over Memorial Day weekend, I am mourning the fact that my apartment complex’s pool was supposed to open. However, since it’s a chilly 55 degrees outside, I am stuck inside, bundled up in a sweatshirt and leggings. I was looking forward to spending this weekend lounging by the pool, reading all day long with a drink in hand while the sun beats down on me. But alas, mother nature had other plans for the weather!

Because of this, I decided to channel my longing to be sitting by the pool into compiling this swimsuit guide for y’all! I’ve selected 10 one-pieces and 10 bikinis, all of which are under $60 and most are even cheaper! I love a good swimsuit as much as the next person, but with how trendy they can be and the fact that I don’t live at the beach, I tend to stick to the more affordable side when purchasing them.

The ones I’ve rounded up are all featured in the graphic below! Just click on the image to shop any of them.

I have the blue striped one-piece already, and I just bought this floral bikini too! The pom pom bikini and the island-print bikini are other favs of mine too. However, all of these are super cute, and I can see myself purchasing any of them soon!

Disclaimer: These are affiliate links, which means that I may make a small commission if you purchase these items. This comes at no extra cost to you and helps keep my blog up and running! I greatly appreciate everyone who shops using my links.

5 Things I Love Right Now

Hey y’all! Long time, no blog post. Working 9-5 has been kicking my butt lately, so blog posts have been on the back burner. However, I am slowly starting to get into a routine with working and blogging, so hopefully more consistent blog posts are coming soon! With that little explanation out of the way, I’m here with some products that I’ve been loving so much, I just have to share them with y’all!

MZ Wallace Tote Bag: I bought this before I flew home for Mother’s Day last week. I needed a tote bag big enough to hold both my work computer, which is already massive, plus my personal computer. My mom has an MZ Wallace bag too, so I knew the size would work for what I needed. It was a great choice for travel! The bag itself is massive, but I still used it as my personal item with no problems. I also got the deluxe version, which has tons of pockets and compartments to keep everything organized. One of the coolest features: it has a luggage sleeve to slip over your suitcase handle! It’s seriously the perfect travel bag, and I’m sure it’ll be great for carrying all my work stuff once I start going to the office later this summer.

Floral Dress: If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen this before because I swear I wear it once a week! I love flowy dresses for when the weather gets warm, and this one is no exception. I’m also a huge fan of florals for spring and summer, so this one checks all my boxes! I cannot even explain how much I love this dress, plus it’s very comfortable too. Seriously, if you’re shopping for summer dresses, I can’t recommend this one enough!

Morphe Cream Blush: Who doesn’t love a little rosy tint in their cheeks? If I’m putting on makeup, I need some color, so blush is a must for me. This one goes on so well and blends super easily. I really like cream makeup instead powder products because I prefer a dewy look over a matte one. The color I got is Wish, the prettiest soft pink shade. I love the color this adds to my cheeks!

Wax Kit: A slightly random item, yes, and it does require a little backstory. I hate shaving my underarms. Compared to the rest of my body, the hair there grows so much darker. Even the day after shaving them with a fresh razor blade, I’d be able to see hair. I was uncomfortable wearing sleeveless tops because of it. Adding on to that, the skin on my underarms has also gotten very sensitive recently, so I was constantly getting ingrown hairs, razor burn or rashes. After a failed attempt at sugaring, I decided to give waxing a go, and I’m so glad I did! Despite the fact that I haven’t gotten a wax done professionally except my eyebrows way back in high school, this kit was super easy to use to do it myself. The pain was actually much less than I expected, and I’m someone with a low pain tolerance. I can now go about a week before seeing any hair, which is so much better than how it used to be. My skin is also doing a lot better, no more bumps or rashes here! I’m definitely going to continue waxing my underarms with this.

Amazon Exercise Dress (under $40!): Everyone seems to be wearing the Outdoor Voices Exercise Dress, and while it is adorable, I wasn’t ready to drop $100 on it. A few weeks ago, one of my favorite influencers, Lindy Goodson, posted an Instagram photo of her wearing this dupe for it from Amazon, and I think I bought it within 5 minutes of seeing it. I got the pink version, of course. It’s super comfy and great for running errands or lounging in. I wore it to the airport and it was comfy but still allowed me to feel more put together than leggings and a tee would. I don’t think I’ll even need the Outdoor Voices version because I like this one so much!

As far as fashion goes, spring might be my favorite season to dress for. I love the pastel colors, florals, pretty dresses and sandals that make their way into our closets around this time every year. Spring outfits are just so fun to put together!

I’ve also seen some super cute spring pieces lately. It seems that I’m constantly adding to cart on tons of different websites. Though most of the time I don’t actually check out, I feel like I’m always shopping. Instead of making a dent in my bank balance, I decided to compile some cute pieces for spring outfit ideas!

I’ve created five adorable outfits that would be perfect for spring! I would honestly wear all of these, and I’d love to recreate them (either with these pieces or ones I already have). Check them all out below and let me know your favorite!

Spring Color Crush: Lavender

Whether you’re calling it lavender, lilac or light purple, there’s no denying that the color is popping up everywhere. I went shopping last weekend and was thrilled to see pastel shades of purple popping up in almost every store I visited.

Ever since this color first started popping up on the fashion scene a few years ago, I’ve loved it. It’s simply gorgeous, and a great switch from the typical light pinks and blues that are usually so common in the springtime! Today, I’ve rounded up a whole long list of lavender items at a variety of price points! You’ll find blouses, tees, sweaters, dresses, bottoms, shoes, accessories and more. Check out my picks below:

My 2020 Favorites

I’m sure I’m not the only one starting off their blog post of their favorites from this year by saying that 2020 was not what we expected it would be. I spent a lot more time cooped up indoors, at home and honestly not doing much. However, in that time I did have plenty of opportunities to try new things and fall in love with some old favorites again. I ramble on about what the crazy year 2020 was because, duh, we lived it, so, in no particular order, here are my favorite items from the last year!

Pod Save America: Before 2020, I already considered myself a pretty good follower of the news. I definitely felt like I was an informed citizen. However, while being stuck at home, I quickly grew bored of using a rotation of Netflix and Hulu to keep myself busy. Instead, I turned to news podcasts (specifically those of the political variety) for entertainment, commentary and to keep me up-to-date on what was going on in the world. I have a list of four podcasts that I listen to for daily news, and a line-up of a couple that come out less frequently but still at least once a week. Pod Save America is one of those. It comes out twice a week and is hosted by four former staffers from the Obama administration. It has a progressive liberal slant, which is my ideology so I don’t mind it. The hosts talk about politics in a way that’s relatable yet also smart and accessible. They also interview the best guests, from politicians to professionals to thought leaders. This year, I especially loved their miniseries on vice-presidential selection. Any time I listen to PSA, I feel confident that the commentary is coming from a place of knowledge and experience because these are people who have worked in government and politics.

Side Note: Crooked Media, the podcast company that produces Pod Save America, also has a daily news podcast called What a Day that I listen to every day, plus a killer weekly political and women’s-interest podcast called Hysteria that I’m also obsessed with. PSA listeners will definitely love those two podcasts too.

Laneige Lip Glowy Balm: My go-to lip product! This gloss is moisturizing and leaves your lips looking glossy with a little bit of color. It’s so pretty on its own or over another color! It is a bit pricy than your standard lip balm, but I only use it when I’m taking pictures or otherwise going to be seen. Otherwise, I just use a standard plain lip balm instead. But if you’re looking for something pretty yet hydrating, this gloss is perfect!

Pink Fairy Gumdrop Candle: I got this during the notorious Bath & Body Works candle sale and it was my favorite of the many, many candles I got! It seriously smells like cotton candy. I love really sweet scents like this one, so if that’s not your preference, then you probably won’t like this one. But if you’re a fan of sweeter, sugary scents, then this is a great pick!

Instacart: When I moved to DC, I left my car behind at home so my brother could have it. I live in a very walkable area with great public transit, and everywhere I could honestly need something from is within walking distance. I could walk to one of the grocery stores near me (there’s a Harris Teeter and a Whole Foods nearby), but they’re somewhat expensive plus I didn’t like the idea of lugging everything back on my own. I decided to try out Instacart using their free trial then eventually ended up buying the yearlong subscription. It’s so convenient to not have to go grocery shopping myself, plus it’s a total time saver. It’s also about $100 for the full year, which works out to less than $10 a month and gives me free delivery and a reduced service fee on my grocery orders. If you’re interested, I have a referral link! Just click the beginning of this paragraph or you can use the code TWLCEK1B2 to get $10 off. This isn’t sponsored, but I get a reward for everyone I refer.

My iPad: I bought an iPad back in March as a way to keep myself entertained while in quarantine, much like everyone else. I’m so glad I did it though! I use my iPad every day, whether it’s doing puzzle games like Sudoku to get my brain going in the morning (don’t judge my nerdy habits), doodling on Procreate, reading a book on there or watching Netflix. I’ve also used it to edit PDFs and sign documents too, as well as editing my photos sometimes. I’d like to start journaling soon, so I’m looking into apps for that too. The iPad truly does it all!

Cowgirl Boots Print: I got this print from Society 6 to hang above my bed in my apartment and it makes me so happy! It’s such a fun piece that matches my room so well, and the sparkles on the boots make it super fun and girly! Plus, it reminds me of my southern roots. It comes in a ton of color options too if you’d rather have something else, like this ombre version, this leopard print version or this galaxy version!

Red, White & Royal Blue: I mentioned this in one of my The Weekly posts a few weeks ago, but I simply must mention it again! This book is the best one I’ve read in a while and probably my new favorite book. It has romance, LGBT+ representation, politics, a female president! It’s so well-written, and I bawled (happy tears though!!!) so many times while reading it. If you’re looking for your next read, I cannot recommend this book enough. The author is coming out with another book later this year that I can’t wait to read too!

Clogs: With all my time spent at home this year, I didn’t really wear shoes a ton since I didn’t leave the house much. That didn’t stop me from buying these shoes! As far as fashion goes, the 70s are probably my favorite decade. These shoes make my 70s-and-retro-loving heart so happy. They’re super cute and comfortable, plus they go with a ton of outfits!

Mikki Huggie Hoops: I love a good statement earring, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes you need a small pair that’s easy to wear with anything. These are a little different from a plain hoop since they’re chunkier and have a more interesting shape. They’re also very lightweight, and the price isn’t bad at all! I’m someone who feels naked without earrings, no matter what I’m wearing, so these are great to pair with anything from a loungewear set to a cute dress!

My Dream Wishlist: What I’d want for Christmas if money wasn’t a thing

Like pretty much everyone, I have a wishlist of things I want that I’ll probably never get because well, money is a thing and these things are out of my budget. However, it’s still fun to dream, isn’t it?

So I thought today I’d share a list of what I’d want for Christmas if I (and my family) had unlimited funds! I call it my dream wishlist.

David Yurman Rings (one and two): I love rings. I have five of them that I literally wear every day. These are both so pretty and would be fun to swap out some of my existing rings with to change things up! The first one is super classic, but I do love the pink morganite in the second one.

Gucci Bags, Gucci Bags, Gucci Bags!: If I could have any designer bag, it would probably be a Gucci bag. The top handle one is so pretty and such a classic, chic shape. The brown one would be a great everyday crossbody. The pink one is trendy and a little crazy, but c’mon, it’s adorable!

Sequin Mini Dress: In my fantasy world where I’d get these gifts, I also have a fancy Christmas party to go to. I’d wear this super fun little mini dress in the most gorgeous burgundy/plum color.

Celine Sunglasses: I actually have a dupe for these that I got for super cheap at Nordstrom and wear all the time during the summer. I’d love to have the real thing instead.

Dyson Airwrap: Am I basic for including this? Absolutely. It seems to be on everyone’s dream wishlist this year. However, I’d love to give myself the perfect blowout at home!

Neon Pink Puffer Coat: This one is probably the most realistic of the bunch, and I actually could maybe purchase it for myself. However, the unrealistic part is spending that much on a coat in such a trendy, bright color. This would be so fun to rock in the dead of winter, especially as a bright way to stand out on a snow day!

Golden Goose Sneakers: I think Golden Gooses are so fun, but I just can’t justify the price of them. I don’t love the ones that look really worn or scuffed already, and these don’t have that look. Plus, I love the pink star and leopard print!

Pink Platform Heels: These give me alllllllll the 70s vibes! Y’all already know pink is my favorite color (I mean duh, just look at this gift guide), and this blush color is darling.

David Yurman Bracelet: Speaking of how much I love pink, how cute is this morganite David Yurman bracelet? I love the little pink accents, and it would go great with the ring above!

Chloe Bag: I’m a biiiiiiiiiig bag girl, and Chloe bags are so chic. I know I just went on about how much I love pink, but this light blue is perfect (and it reminds me of UNC, my alma mater!).

Drunk Elephant Skincare Set: Skincare is something I don’t really like to spend a ton on, but I’ve heard such good things about Drunk Elephant. I tried a mini version of a cleanser and moisturizer that I got as the birthday gift from Sephora one year, and it was so nice. However, I couldn’t justify the price of actually purchasing it. This whole set is very expensive but would be super fun to try out!

iMac: This is something I definitely don’t need, yet it would be fun to have. I recently bought a stand and keyboard for my laptop to have it at eye-level on my desk (you can see my setup here) which has been super great for working from home. It would be nice to have a larger screen to work on though!
